Headaches are an extremely common complaint thanks to the increased stress of today’s society. You should not, though, think that having a throbbing head every day is normal. A good and fast cure for your headache is to drink some cold beverages like iced coffee or black tea. Both coldness and caffeine constrict blood vessels that cause tension headaches. You do need to be careful with this technique however because consuming too much caffeine can cause headaches in the long run when you start to go withdrawals after failing to get your “fix.” So when you experience a particularly difficult tension headache, some help might be found in a cold caffeinated beverage but you also need to work on lowering your stress levels as well as lowering anything else that might be making you have the headaches.

If you wear things around or on your head might be adding to your headaches. Headbands are obvious culprits but other things like hats, helmets, sunglasses and even lightweight headphones can be contributors. There are some people who get headaches called “external compression headaches” and these are caused by pressure exerted around the head. While a specific item might not feel hurtful when it is first put on, but as it gets left there and restricts blood flow, it can begin to cause pain.

So, if you’re always wearing something on your head you should try giving it a break.

There are a lot of different ways to deal with your stress headaches. You probably want to use a ready made cure like an over the counter pain reliever or caffeinated beverage if your headache is bad but it is also important to look into the cause of the problem if you really want to cure it. Nobody should be forced to deal with stress headaches since they’re typically a message from your body that it is time to lower your stress.
