By Robert Wood

If you suffer from back pain, there are a few exercises that you can do that can help you with back pain, especially if you experience it right now. As long as you are able to use the right exercises, and not overdo it, it can be very beneficial if you implement them. In this article, we will discuss several low impact exercises that will help you stretch your back, strengthen the muscles, and also align your spine by doing these activities on a regular basis.

An exercise system that has been available since the 1920s is Pilates. Unfortunately, not a lot of people know much about Pilates. Joseph Pilates introduced it in the 1920s. Pilates is very good for your spine. The focus of Pilates is to build up your core strength (abdominal and back muscles) and stretch your muscles. This, of course, leads to a healthier spine. Pilates Centers are convenient if you want to use Pilate’s equipment, like a barrel, to do your Pilates exercises. A variety of Pilates exercises are done using equipment that you can generally find available at a Pilates Center. However, there are many Pilate’s exercises you can do in the privacy of your own home. One advantage of Pilates is that it is very gentle at the beginning. As you build up your strength and endurance, you can add to the intensity. There are different ways to begin incorporating Pilates into your life. If there’s a Pilates Center in your area, then, that would be a good place to start. There is also the option of buying videos that train you in the Pilates method. Not only will Pilates augment your level of fitness, it can help relieve and prevent back pain.

Typically when people are referencing the back pain that they feel, it is in their lower back. You can also have upper back pain which can be painful but it will require a different treatment to make it better. You will have extreme stiffness in your shoulders and neck area if you suffer from upper back problems. Upper back tension is usually attributed to sitting for extended periods of time without moving. If you have a pull-up bar handy, you can use this to stretch your upper back when it gets tight. All you have to do is grab the bar, with a wide grip about shoulder width, and hang your ankles crossed and knees bend accordingly. Your entire upper torso will get a great stretch. Upper back pain can actually diminish by doing this exercise and also prevent additional pain from occurring.

If you have a membership to a fitness club, use the elliptical trainer for a great back routine. It is possible to purchase one and use it at home as well. Due to its low impact nature, you will definitely get a thorough workout without overstraining.

Without putting pressure on your knees and back like a typical exercise bike or treadmill, the circular motion of this equipment makes it easy to get a workout. After working out, you will realize that you have also used your upper body. If possible, you should also try to use a step machine. These are low impact as well. You can actually make your spine worse if you try aerobic exercises instead due to their high impact nature. The only drawback is that aerobic workouts are high impact which could cause additional pain or injury. To make sure that you do not overstress your back, yet get in a good exercise routine, use step machines or elliptical machines when you exercise. We have covered a lot of great stretching exercises that will aid your effort in trying to have a strong and healthy spine. You should not try any stretching that feels unpleasant and if you are suffering from some sort of back pain you should seek approval from your doctor. When you have arranged an exercise regimen fit for your personal needs you should be armed with the necessary ammunition to stay healthy and fit.
