It is always important for people to have good dental hygiene. Unfortunately for some people a visit to the dentist is probably one of the things that they fear most in life.
Dentists come in many guises. Here we can see what types of dentists there are and what their roles incorporate.
A pediatric dentist is a person that specializes in the care of oral hygiene in both children and adolescents. In order foe somebody to become a pediatric dentist they must first qualify as a dentist and then study for an extra two years. They must have qualified for a license in order for them to be classed as a pediatric dentist.
A special care dentist is another type of dentist that specializes in taking care of the oral hygiene of people with either special physical, emotional, medical or social needs. This profession requires that a dentist must do at least three years post graduate training once he has completed a degree in dentistry. This position tends to mainly focus on a persons oral care that may have been affected by their surroundings, medical history or their disability.
You have probably heard or seen the forensic dentist. This is the one that is usually called to give evidence in legal cases.
Their time is usually spent on examining dental structures and records in the cases where the identity of a person is unknown. They can also give evidence on such things as bite marks in certain malpractice cases.
Another dentist is the cosmetic dentist. This role involves the aesthetic side of dentistry. The cosmetic dentist tends to concentrate on shaping and forming teeth to give a more aesthetic look to people face. Their roles also include bleaching and whitening of teeth.
The geriatric dentist is a dentist that would normally look after older patients and would normally diagnose, prevent and treat any dental problems in people in old age.
Even the animals have their own dentist. This role is filled by the veterinary dentist whose role it is to care for and prevent oral cavities for the animal world.
