If ever muscle pain is experienced by a person and it continues for more than two to three days, then chances are, he or she is suffering from arthritis. This is one chronic disease that affects a lot of people all around the world and it is also a very common disorder. Pain in the bone joints is the major symptom of arthritis but some arthritis sufferers may also feel pain in certain organs in the body.

As a matter of fact, a Latin word that means inflammation of the joints is arthritis. Arthritis causes inflammation of the joints due to damage to the cartilage. Patients suffering from arthritis could suffer from long-term joint damage, which could ultimately lead to disability from severe arthritis pain. It’s common for arthritic patients to feel pain in the early morning hours that slowly subsides as the day progresses.

Here’s a fact: there’s more than 100 types of arthritis. Without a thorough examination the doctor will not be able to find which type of arthritis you are suffering from. When it comes to arthritis, it can stem from injuries and strains caused by sports, repetitive motion, overexertion etc. Examples of arthritic diseases are rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis, which are autoimmune diseases; septic arthritis, caused by joint infection; and the more common osteoarthritis, or degenerative joint disease that largely affects older people.

Here are the three stages of arthritis

Swelling is the first stage of arthritis. The next stage would be a rapid division and growth of the cells. The cells release specific enzymes, which erode the bone, causing the joint to lose its shape, during the third stage. It is then the arthritis pain becomes unbearable. Since this is a systemic disease, it can migrate and affect other body organs. It would be better if you are able to detect arthritis at its early stage before it spreads to other parts of the body. Proper therapy and medication can be used to treat arthritis.

Treatment. Examples of arthritis treatment are medicine, exercise, thermal modalities, joint protection and surgery.

b) Medicine. For proper arthritis treatment, there are several effective arthritic medications that are available in the market. Anti-inflammatory drugs are helpful in most cases. However, before you buy any medicine, you should first consult a doctor.

c) Exercise. Muscles and joints will be strengthened by exercise and it will increase blood circulation in those areas. Yoga is very therapeutic in reducing arthritis pain.

4. Rest. Since proper rest helps the body to conserve energy and allows the body to heal and reduce pain, rest can provide good arthritis relief.

e) Thermal modalities. With cold and heat compresses, short-term relief will be given to stiffness and pain.

6. Joint protection. With this, patients are allowed to move with minimal stress to the joints. Common arthritis relief products widely available on the market today are joint protections like knee supports and back belts.
