The type of diet plan which disallows certain foods can make you have cravings for those foods and you will have a hard time staying with it for the long haul. The craving is just an overpowering want for a particular food even if you are full and no longer hungry. When you in the end give in then you usually overeat, and this can lead to weight gain.
Most of the cravings are your body needing some of the 6 vital food elements: protein, carbohydrates, vitamins, fat, water, and minerals. When the diet plan demands that you stay away completely for any of these elements, the craving you have for them only intensifies due to your body not getting something it needs. The diet plans that have the highest success rate will have flexible menus that involve all these elements, they will recommend not skipping any of them.
The feeling of hunger is not a craving because your body wants all of the 6 elements at the same moment instead of just one. In this case it only wants to be fed food of any kind! The only way to control your appetite totally is by keeping the stomach full so you do not feel hunger. The diet plans that are the best suggest you consume smaller meals at least 5 to 6 times during you daily routine, in place of the traditional 3 large meals. These meals need to be full of fiber, vegetables, fruits, good fats, and protein. You should try to include every one of these elements into your meals or as many of them as possible.
Fats and proteins are really great for appetite control. A diet plan that works will not cut out any fats. Fats can be bad or good and the body should have the good ones. Polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats are good fats. Be careful how much saturated fats that you eat.
You need to exercise to lose weight. When you exercise, you increase your metabolic rate, which is the rate at which you burn calories. You cannot achieve long term weight loss success without exercise. Any diet plan that claims you can lose weight simply by changing your diet alone or popping a weight loss pill should be avoided at all costs. The most successful diet plans will stress the importance of diet and exercise. You need them both for sustained, long term weight loss.
A Plan You Can Live with For a Lifetime. This is probably the most overlooked element by dieters as they look for a great diet plan. If you cannot live with a diet for life, you simply will not be able to keep the weight off over the long term. It’s that simple. Talk to any elderly person who has managed to stay fit all their life and ask them what kind of diet they’ve had over their lifetime. You can bet they will not say Atkins, Negative-Calorie, or some other short-term fad diet.
A diet plan that is healthy should allow for a balanced program including every one of the six elements mentioned above. Everything in moderation is a good phrase to live by especially when you need a diet to last your whole life. The fad diets for losing weight quickly only are successful for a short time; however, if your desire is to get the weight off and keep it off permanently you need to stay away from them completely.
