Weight Management Problem – So Why Do Many Well-known Diet Programs Fail?

By Emily Greene

Why is it that many of the most popular diet programs fail, and usually end up in disappointment, frustration, and a feeling of being deprived? Weight management is important for good health and physical fitness, as well as your self esteem, but many diets do not work as advertised and really prevent success instead in many cases. You will find numerous reasons why diets fail, and all of these combine to cause an very low rate of success and frequent failure.

One common reason for failure with weight management and diet programs is a feeling of becoming deprived. Too frequently a diet plan will involve restricting the foods that you are able to eat, and in some cases complete food groups are eliminated. This could cause nutritional deficiencies and health problems, not to mention binge eating once the feeling of deprivation becomes too much.

An additional reason why diets fail and weight management is so hard for many is because diet programs aren’t intended to become permanent. Once a diet plan has been completed then there is a tendency to go back to eating habits which are unhealthy and full of fat. It is better to get lifestyle changes instead, to ensure that you get in much better physical shape and burn much more calories every day while consuming a nutritious diet. A diet isn’t intended to become a lifelong change, and if you don’t get sufficient physical activity, as well as reducing your calorie intake, then you will not lose weight.

An additional problem with a lot of the diet programs out there’s that they are not truly practical for your real life. You may need to be specially ready foods or use weights and measurements for portion sizes. These steps don’t work for long having a normal lifestyle, and this leads you to end up failing eventually.

A large problem with dieting and weight management is that these efforts might trigger your metabolism to work at a lower rate when you do not get an adequate amount of calories every day. Your body and metabolism will go into starvation mode to ensure that fewer calories are burned even with physical activity. Diets which include the bare minimal calorie count can also trigger you to become deficient in some nutrients, and won’t usually result in weight loss that’s permanent.

An additional common cause for dieting failure is the cost of foods that are specially prepared. Many well-known diets only allow you to eat foods purchased from them, and these foods are costly. You may see weight loss and effective weight management on these diets at very first but unless you’re going to eat these prepared meals for the remainder of your life you will normally wind up gaining weight back as soon as you start to consume usually again.
