When you start looking for the right lighter to light your expensive cigars, you are going to want to be choosy. Plenty of great options are available, but you need to know what types of lighters are going to be the best for the job. The little plastic lighters from the convenience store or the grocery checkout line just aren’t going to be up to the task. Using torch lighters and butane lighters is always going to be a better option, but even narrowing your choice down to those will leave you with many different options.

A torch lighter is butane lighter that uses a highly pressurized jet of butane to produce the flame. The flame is generally blue. This gives them their distinctive look. The mechanism by which the flames are directed is usually proprietary to every manufacturer, but it’s the pressurization that allows the lighter to produce such controlled combustion. The standard butane-fueled lighters let out an undirected stream of gas that burns in whichever way air currents dictate. The high pressure butane designs are much more precise than that.

The cigar can be perfectly lit with a flat flame, but there are also other types of lighters that you can use to light your cigar. Since there are so many options available, you may want to take some time to look into the many lighters on the market so that you can determine which will work best for you and the cigars that you most like.

The flat flame lighter is preferred by many cigar smokers. They unusually contend that the flat flame gives a more even heat over the cigar, which makes it easier for them to light. The flat flame is also wind and waterproof, in some lighters, so this makes them appropriate for those cigar smokers who like to puff in the great outdoors. If you’re looking for a cigar lighter that looks a bit different from the rest of the pack, a flat flame lighter might fit the bill.

Any type of cigar lighter needs to be maintained properly. If your flat flame starts to have issues, check to see if the jets are dirty. This is the problem in most cases where one of these lighters fails to perform as expected. The lighter may also have low fuel or there may be too much wind for it to function correctly. It’s a good idea to read the literature that comes with these lighters so that you learn how to maintain and use them properly.
