Find A Good Cordless Drill With These Tips

By Kyle Loroft

There are various factors to consider when examining cordless drills. All the different factors cause the decision on which cordless drill is best for you to be even harder. Let’s begin with the fundamentals:

Build Quality

When I state “build quality,” I am talking about the ability of the drill’s components to endure well over time and usage. Should the drill not have a superior electric motor, it may “burn up” under continued use. Similarly, the clutch, which permits the drill to achieve different factors of torque, may begin to slip or break. Further, there are switches on a drill and you want these to last.

Typically, you can tell somewhat if a drill is of high-quality or not just by examining it and feeling its heft. If it doesn’t seem expensive, it’s probably not. However, a better way to decide how well a drill is constructed is to look at a number of reviews on the Internet.

Quality construction is a factor that will become apparent with use, so you can learn what other users’ experiences have been with a particular drill.

Characteristics

The best cordless drill must possess at minimum the features we expect, but it does not need to have all the “bells and whistles,” particularly if they are not necessary for you. We all expect a keyless chuck, permitting you to exchange bits using only your hands, without an additional tool. The best cordless drill must have a keyless chuck, one which does not allow the bit to slip.

A clutch is another important feature for a cordless drill. Because it’s essential not to strip screws by too much torque, the clutch on the cordless drill prevents this from happening. The majority of drills today contain a clutch. Another important characteristic is a variable speed feature. This feature provides the flexibility of determining the specific speed and torque combination needed for a particular job.

Recently, a few newer drill models have been including an integrated LED light. This is a great feature if you have to drill in a dim area. However, it’s a convenience and not a necessity.
