Knitting And Meditation

By Guest

Knitting is becoming the next meditation tool, a great stress reliever. There is something hypnotic about knitting, moving the needles back and forth, the feel of the yarn between your fingers, creating something gorgeous. It can be very relaxing for anyone. Whether you are working on a very difficult project which requires lots of attention, or a simple hat, that can be done with your eyes closed, it is a great way to work of that extra stress, solve problems, or just sit and meditate.

I have found that while in my most stressful moments, I can knit and work it out. Knitting is a great distraction for anyone. It is also a great time to get together as a group and enjoy wonderful friends around you. If you cannot find a group, visit your local knit shop, they sometimes have one, or you can create your own. There are many sites for free patterns that you can share with your group, so you can work on the same projects, many charities your group can knit for, or maybe a chance to finish all those UFO’s!

One group that would be great to start with is through your local church or bible study. Bible study and knitting seem to work well together. It is a great way to prepare yourself spiritually and mentally. Here is a fun and awesome e-book that I have found that can help you get started with a bible knitting group, it is titled Knitting Bible Study. If you are interested in looking at it or purchasing your own copy, then Click Here!

If you don’t want to join a group, knitting by yourself is also meditative. I have found that if I put on a great movie, gather my snacks, I can knit and work out my problems. Some doctors say it is a great stress reliever for heart problems. It is a great opportunity to slow down and relax, without feeling lazy.

There are many projects that can be relaxing, you don’t have to start with the hardest project you see. Socks are fun and cute, but sometimes double pointed needles are scary. Hats are a great place to start and so are scarfs. You can donate these items to homeless shelters, cancer centers, or keep them for yourself. If you don’t know where to start, here is a must have e-book, titled Knitting Essentials. To learn more about it or purchase your own copy, Click Here!

There are many more, but here are just a few. So, if you are starting to feel the world closing in on you and just need a way to meditate, pick up some needles and yarn, join some friends and start knitting!
