By Steve Chung
China is actually a country that has a long art heritage. Indeed the arts that have originated from China have many of the most unique elements that the world has witnessed. Chinese art slowly developed into what it is today more than a period of five thousand years.
Throughout the Neolithic period, for example, the Chinese produced various artifacts, probably the most common of which were jade carvings, painted pottery, tools and ornaments. Even for the duration of that time, they displayed carvings with intricate designs and fine craftsmanship. Most of the work that they produced throughout the Neolithic period consisted of pottery, jade and bronze.
When the Shang dynasty came along between 1750 and 1045 BC, China came up with even much more stunning bronze artworks. This is also the time wherein sacrificial vessels showed off the developments in style that the Chinese had gone through.
The archeologists have been able to unearth such amazing ritualistic bronze artwork that shows us that the Shang Dynasty was a progressive dynasty that developed a lot of new techniques through trial and error.
Soon after China embraced Buddhism, the Chinese began to go through different changes in their world of art and art inherited a completely new character compared to what the country was once used to. Paintings, sculpture and architecture began to show a lot more religious themes and sculptures of important mythological characters and religious figures started to flourish the much more Buddhism influenced the general public.
Buddhist art began to come into its own in China during the rule of the Tang dynasty. Under their rule the Chinese produced excellent works of art that had a very graceful nature and were created in perfect proportion and harmony. With time Buddhist art took on a a lot more dramatic nature and as the Ming dynasty came into power miniature sculpture in ivory, glass and jade began to flourish.
As for the Chinese paintings of old, only very few remained intact through the years. However, there is quite a whole lot of various lacquer, ceramics and tiles in China. In reality, Chinese painters were mostly well-known for their silhouette and line mastery.
The Tang dynasty, on the other hand, was renowned for its figurine paintings. The Chinese artists that were around throughout that time had been inspired by animals, human beings and courtly life, but it was their landscape paintings that remain to be held in high esteem to this day. Overall, the Tang dynasty ruled between 618 and 906.
Inside the years after that, Chinese paintings went through a whole lot of developments, most of all when it came to brush work. Chinese artists started to master the brush and calligraphy art soon right after that and it quickly became a extremely well-known art in China.
