Where To Find Cross Stitch Patterns

Cross stitching seems to be a tradition in a lot of families today. A craft passed down from generation to generation, not to mention the passing down of family heirloom cross stitch patterns. As this is one of the oldest forms of embroidery, it has been around for centuries, and is still popular today. There are countless types of designs, everything from a cartoon character to a lovely floral design. And there are many places that you can now find the patterns that you are looking for.

Magazines and booklets have carried patterns and techniques for decades. Today there are even ones that specialize just in cross stitch with the many different patterns published by designers and from readers and subscribers. The easy part with having magazines, you can tear out the designs you want and carry it with you.

The internet also offers a treasure trove of patterns. There you’ll find hundreds if not more, of cross stitching sites that cater to everyone’s needs. Crafters from all over the world like to showcase and share their own techniques, tips, and patterns with others. Using a search engine, you’ll find thousands of patterns to choose from and print out.

To make it even easier than before, some companies print or stamp a design right on the fabric. This is a handy way to see the design first thing and easy to follow. Freeing you up from having to carry a pattern with you or keep glancing at a design to make sure you are on the right path.

If you would like to make your own patterns, there are a few programs out there that will help you do this. They have preset patterns ready and they will also allow you to design your own right in the program. You’ll be able to save, experiment, and edit your designs as well as print them out when ready.

If you have a computer with a paint program, that is all you need to let your imagination run wild with designs and patterns. Sometimes you just can’t find what you are looking for in a magazine or even online, but you have that idea in your head and want to use it. All you need is to open your paint program, either load a picture of your own or create one, then apply a grid and adjust. Once done just print and start stitching.

Cross stitching is a favorite pastime not only for the older generation, but for the younger ones too. With so many different cross stitch patterns available to you and the ease in creating your own, the possibilities are truly endless. Patterns found in magazines, internet sites, and your own imagination can have you embroidering your heart out in no time.
