White Wine and Cigars
By Kayla Kelly
Strong cigars with light wrappers tend to go very well with white wines. The trick with mixing white wines and cigars is to make sure that the taste of the wine doesn’t overpower the taste of the cigar too much. Because white wines tend to be less dry and sweeter than reds sometimes, it’s easy to outdo your cigar in the flavor department and end up having a bad combo. Consider the following.
While there are many potential pairings, it depends on your preferences whether you will enjoy that particular pair. To find the type of wine that pairs best with your favorite cigar, you may have to experiment with a few so that you can determine which one has the best taste, flavor, and blend. Finding complementary flavors with white wine and cigars is not difficult considering how many quality cigars and wines have been developed.
Depending on your location, you may have access to wines that have a unique citrusy flavor that may not be available in other areas. You may also find others with hints of vanilla or other similar flavorings. Once you find a wine with a particular flavor that is predominant, you can find a cigar with a similar flavoring.
Consider a CAO Gold cigar if you want to pair with just about any white wine. Chardonnay will go well with these cigars. If you’re not getting as much flavor out of either as you want, you might want to try a drier wine to see if you can bring out more of the cigar’s flavor. When you hit the perfect balance, they’ll each bring out the flavor of the other.
It can be fun to come up with different pairings for your wine and cigars. You might want to get together with some friends and see which pairings you each enjoy and then sample them. You might find a new favorite.
