Tango music is traditionally performed by a sextet. It is called a orquesta tipica. These bands generally includes two violins, a double bass, piano, and two bandoneons. Some of the earlier forms of the music included the clarinet, flute and guitar. It is possible that the music will be entirely instrumental, but there is vocals including on occasion.

The bandoneon is the main instrument in the music for the Tango. It is a type of accordion that is very difficult to play. Without this instrument the music would have a totally different sound. The great bandoneon players are on of the reasons that the flamenco music and Tango have become so popular through out the world.
