The country of Belize is located on the eastern shores of Central America and is the only one in this part of the world where English is spoken. For more than a century it was a colony of Britain and then in 1981 it gained its independence. Nowadays this country is becoming an extremely popular tourist destination with travelers from around the world and provides something for everyone. In this article we look at what are 7 great reasons to visit Belize.

Reason 1 – Beaches

This country has over 380km of coastline that is made up of some of the most wonderful beaches in the world that you can just spend time soaking the sun up on. To the east is the Caribbean Sea and the beaches faces towards these offer you great places to relax and unwind but unlike those beaches in the Caribbean do not become too crowded.

Reason 2 – Diving

Just off the coast of Belize you will find a Coral Reef that is second largest to the Great Barrier Reef and is considered to be a superb place to go diving. The reef stretches for a total of 290 km and within it lives a large selection of different types of marine life and is also home to some of the world’s rarest and most endangered marine life forms. Here you will find living the West Indian Manatee along with the American Crocodile and it is also home to 178 different plant and 247 different marine flora species.

Reason 3 – Soft Adventure

When you choose to visit Belize you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to soft adventures. For those who are up for a challenge why not take the Aerial Trek Canopy Tour or have a ride on the Zip Line at Jaguar Paw.

Reason 4 – Ka’ana Boutique Resort and Spa

This particular resort is to be found situated around 2 hours from the airport and provides you with the perfect base to explore many of the wonderful things that this country has to offer. Although it isn’t situated close to a beach it will offer you the relaxing atmosphere that you crave to ensure that you have a truly wonderful holiday.

Reason 5 – Food

This is one of the best of our 7 great reasons to visit Belize. The food that is available to be enjoyed here is not as you would find in other parts of the world as it is a mixture of flavours from various other countries. Certainly there is a strong Caribbean influence to the food served but also Mexico, Spain and Africa have influences in the cuisine as well. Of course with the abundance of coastline then seafood is a very stable part of this country’s diet and so are fresh tropical fruits.

Reason 6 – Mayan Ruins

Belize was in fact the centre of the Mayan civilization and its people resided here between 250AD and 900AD. Today as you wander around this wonderful country there are many ruins to explore and enjoy including some truly magnificent palaces and temples. One particular set of Mayan Ruins to visit when you go to Belize are those at Xunantunich which is situated around 130 km west of Belize City.

Reason 7 – Weather

The final of our 7 great reasons to visit Belize concerns the country’s weather. For anyone who is looking to visit somewhere that has good weather pretty much throughout the year then Belize is a country worth thinking about visiting. During the year the climate is relatively hot and humid, however during the winter time the temperatures do go down a little bit. But most of the time the temperature in Belize sits at around 27 degrees centigrade, however in June the temperature can reach as high as 29 degrees centigrade. Should you want to visit the country where there is very little risk of it raining then arrange your trip to take place between February and May.
