About Getting Back To The Historical Meaning Of The Season This Year
Christmas is a yearly winter celebration that takes place in December on the 25th. The holiday is best known as a Christian one though other groups are known to observe it too. The modern act of forbidding public Xmas displays and the notably increase in its commercialization has led many Christian groups to accuse the government as well as numerous secular groups of trying to get rid of Jesus. Every year, religious groups across America engage in pointless campaigns with the goal of combating the nonexistent war on Christmas and instating God back into the celebration. However, unknown to the majority of them, getting back to the original meaning of the season would surprisingly involve much more agnostic ideals.
Modern Xmas is celebrated a lot like it was way back in the 1800s. As far as aesthetics are concerned, private houses are strung with bright lights and their insides are decorated with fake snow, wreaths, and other pieces.
The most popular example would be Christmas trees, which are propped up with a stand and decorated with tinsel and ornaments. Stockings are hung above the fireplace, one for each family member, and handmade pieces are plastered on the walls.
Generally, gifts are bought for various friends and relatives, wrapped in bright paper and ribbon, and then put under the festive tree. More compact toys and candies are slid into the stockings too. On early Christmas day, families get together and unwrap their presents, which is occasionally followed by a quick turkey lunch.
Those who ascertain that the mostly commercial observance should be focused back on Christianity aren’t exactly making the case they think they are. Winter holidays date back thousands of years, the early Romans and Norsemen held extravagant celebrations to honor the solstice. These events predated Christianity and were completely void of any religious principles.
In the fourth century officials in the church got to work labeling the birth of Jesus an official holiday. The exact date isn’t mentioned in the bible so the the pope strategically chose December 25th. This was to attract Pagans to the holiday, specifically the Romans who’s god Mithra was born on the same day.
