Create some new traditions

Has it been a while since you have done anything fun and exciting in your life, are you one of those persons with the long to-do list that just never seems to get everything checked off your list? Well if you are then Christmas season is probably no more fun for you than a tooth ache- it’s there and you know it won’t go away until you do something about it.

Christmas time should be a time of joy where you can enjoy some genuine peace and happiness, unfortunately far too many people see Christmas time as the most stressful month of the whole year and will do anything to avoid it, which means pushing off the gift giving until the last minute.

Start by not worrying about money; make your gifts this year instead of buying. Recent research has shown that this brings people more authentic happiness than other type of gift giving. Homemade Christmas cards, homemade goodies such as cookies, taffy, peanut brittle, and chocolate treats all bring joy to the recipient but also to you the giver. If you enjoy time sewing, needle work, painting, or other types of handy work, personalize them and distribute to family, friends, and even co-workers.

Many gifts don’t have to cost you a thing: have you ever thought that some of your friends and family would be just as happy if not more so by just spending time with you? If time is hard to come by maybe you could get some extra holiday shopping, decorating, and or wrapping presents done together; this not only gives you time to spend together but it crosses to-dos off of both your lists.

Clear out your schedule and dedicate a whole weekend to spontaneous activities; when is the last time you went ice-skating, hot tubing, or better yet why not get a couple massage together, or simply see the lights of the city. If spending time together is not a luxury you usually have in your day-to-day busy life then receiving some personalized time might mean so much more, as well as memorable.

Remember to that is the busy of the season it is easy to forget about yourself, which is kind-of the point, unless you run yourself ragged. make sure you stay hydrated, rested, and take time for yourself to enjoy some peace, maybe through a good book, meditation, or a good work out. By giving yourself some “down time” you will be better off when trying to give of yourself to others.
