Essentials For Your Vacation

By Matt Greene

We are all guilty at some time or other of overloading our suitcase when we go on holiday. We throw everything in, covering every eventuality and we only end up wearing roughly a fifth of what we take away.

So, if you’ve packed scarves and handbags to colour co-ordinate with two outfits per day, it might just be time for you to take a step back, reassess your approach to packging and just go for the essentials.

Swimming Wear

Of course, you are most likely to need swimwear on your holiday. But let’s get this straight – you don’t need new swimming shorts or a new bikini every day. That is going over the top. You probably will only need 2 or 3 pairs of shorts or bikinis for a two week holiday, so that’s all you should take.

Daywear

Keep in mind that you are going on holiday. You don’t need to be seen to be wearing the latest fashions, nor do you need to co-ordinate your outfits. Just stick to packing what you are actually going to need: some t-shirts, a few pairs of shorts, some skirts and vest tops. That really is it: if you take one thing away from this article, let it me that. Consider this my gift to you.

Nightwear

Basically, if it’s cotton, not too tightly fitting and it’s comfortable, then that’s what you should take with you as evening ears. It doesn’t matter whether you are going out to eat, to see a show or will be dancing the night away, something lightweight and loose will win out every time.

Shoes and Sandals

Keep the total number of pairs of shoes to a minimum and make sure you have some flip-flops or fairly lightweight slippers for around the pool and walking around the hotel in.

For ladies, one pair of shoes with a heel is more than enough as after a day of sunbathing your feet won’t want to be pushed into a pair of stilettos! Men are easier to please in this category too; flip-flops are perfect for all occasions. Trainers? No they can definitely stay at home!
