By Alexandra Smith

Evil Jesters were not really evil originally. The vision of an evil version of it just became popular when the comic book of Batman made Joker, who is a jester, an adversary. They were not really evil in their times. The truth is, they are hired to entertain people especially the royal ton. The evil jester costumes were even actually colorful clothes and a motley hat that really looks happy rather than scary.

Don’t you know that these jesters were “Licensed Fool”. This means they are given the license to act mad in front of people. Their deviant and gross actions are excused because it is their “act” to entertain people. Tumbling in public, juggling, telling silly jokes and stories could be offensive by the genteel but their license gives them excuse. They were even referred to as toys and puppets during those times.

Because these jester’s license to be a fool in public, they were even given the authority to be blunt to a point of criticizing their masters and mistresses. Yet a new set of jester-like people emerge–the Baffoons. They still wear colored clothing like the jester costumes, but without the motley hat. They paint their face really silly because that is how they entertain people. These Baffoons were soon little by little changed into ‘CLOWNS’.

However, nowadays these jesters were no longer amusing, they have become an image of a scary evil prankster-Evil jesters as they were called. The old colorful clothes were turned into an evil jester costume. They have become scary than foolish. Nowadays, the clown is the friendly version of the jesters.
