Halloween is celebrated on the 31st October and is the night before All Saints Day people have been celebrating it for over 3000 years. Many believe that the night was celebrated to recognize that the lighter days were ended and that the darker days were beginning. The need to ward off evil spirits was the reason behind the Halloween costumes and the masks, as they helped to disguise the person from harm. This holiday became so popular in America when the Irish introduced them to the festival and the activities. As with many holidays, the Americans adapted it to suit with their culture and expectations and made it the huge holiday it is today. Although over the years people have tried to make Halloween more about the neighborhood and families the traditional Halloween costumes are still as popular as ever.

Many of the symbols associated with Halloween have come from the Celtic times where turnips and pumpkins were carved to make lanterns. The images of ghouls, ghosts and vampires have become very popular as a Halloween costume for many. The more scary the image and decorations the better and many people take a great deal of time decorating their homes.

Everything dark and evil is brought out for this holiday and the popular colors of black and orange are used the most at this time.
