What to read on holiday this year
By Amy Spencer
When holidays come around it is time to forget about being at work for a little while and instead relax and have some fun. The provide the perfect chance to sit in the sun and recharge the batteries for a week or two and reading a good book is an excellent way to take your mind of being back home. Sometimes it can be difficult to choose a good book or two for on holiday though and so the following are a number of books which have been extremely popular and for good reason.
The Harry Potter series has sold millions of copies around the world and for very good reason. What was originally aimed at young people quickly became a favourite with people of all ages and the high demand led the books into become a huge film franchise too. Even if you read quickly there is enough Harry Potter to keep you occupied for a couple of weeks and it is very easy to get completely wrapped up in this series or at least enough to keep your mind off being back at work.
If it is something more mature that you’re looking for then Stieg Larsson’s Millennium trilogy is an excellent option to consider. The trilogy was so popular that it has since been turned into a series of small budget films and is now being turned into mainstream blockbusters and it all started with the novels. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest will really get the imagination going.
If fiction isn’t really your thing then maybe something a little closer to home is more preferable. Steve Jobs has affected most people in one way or another and he has revolutionised the way we do a lot of things through his work at Apple. Jobs was a complicated man though and this is exposed in his Exclusive biography written by Walter Isaacson.
For something entirely different to the aforementioned, Jack Kerouac’s On the Road is an excellent option. On the Road has been given fantastic comments by some of the most esteemed individuals and organisations and even described as one of the most important books of the last century. The book describes a series of jazz, drugs and poetry fuelled road trips across America.
