Why go through the inconvenience of getting in and out of your vehicle to drive your car into and from your garage? People do not go through that now! What used to be uncommon happens to be commonplace in a majority of today’s houses. Because we humans are always searching for more efficient and effective ways to complete various daily tasks, the mechanics sector is continually updating and improving solutions that are currently available. And who would object to the availability of a better way to do things?

A Closer Look at Garage Door Openers

More than likely, the garage door opener that you choose will fit in one of the three main categories, of which the differentiating factor is the mechanical drive in use. The first and most common is the chain-driven opener, followed by the screw-driven and belt-driven systems.

Chain-driven Garage Door Openers As stated earlier, this design is one of the more popular types. It is considered to be less expensive, as well as being the most dependable out there. There is one main downside to the chain–it’s noisy. Regarded as the noisiest one among the three. This might be annoying when your garage is attached to the house and next to your living area. If it’s separate from the house, it shouldn’t be much of a nuisance. Yet, the noise level is better than living next to a railroad track. One more consideration to be done with the chain type opener is the power you will be needing. Usually, 1/2 horsepower will do for home consumption, but if you want a faster moving garage door, you can move up to a 3/4 horse power and race with your friends!

Belts The reliability of chain-driven openers are setback by the noise it produces. And there are people who cannot stand such noise. The belt-operated garage door openers give you a more quiet option and is considered the best in the market. Same reliability as the chains but more silent. Cost-wise, they are the most expensive one among the three. Yet it pays to keep your sanity in tack without the need to deal with the noise caused by the chains.

Screws The last type is also the loudest and cheapest among the three, the screw openers. This method employs a threaded steel rod instead of a belt or chain. One primary obstacle is that it is based on a steady weather for maximum use. So, the installation of this particular system would only be advised in places where the weather is mostly constant in temperature. If you do not use your garage much, this model is for you, provided that you reside in a temperate area. Furthermore, they are relatively harder to find than others, as there is less demand in the industry.
