Atlanta In Home Care Made Easy

By Cathy Mercer

In the area of Atlanta in home care can allow an elderly person the option of staying independent. This type of service provider can offer their clients a variety of services. While nursing and other health assistance is popular, an in home caregiver might also help with emotional and personal things, such as bathing and dressing. They may also help with the chores, such as laundry and sweeping.

Although caring for a loved one can be quite taxing on a family, most do not wish to see their aging parent or grandparent lose the independence that living on their own can offer. When the caretaking task becomes too much for the family, they might choose to hire someone to come in and help. This of course can be a costly expense. However, if the person needing assistance has a medical need, a medical plan submitted by their doctor and is homebound, their Medicare plan is likely to cover the costs.

It is unfortunate that Medicare will only offer this type of assistance for 60 days. If the client needs or simply wants help past that time, the family and/or client must cover the cost. There is no set cost for this type of service as cost is dependent on where the client is located.

One of two types of caregiver can be chosen from. The first type is more beneficial to the client who functions quite well on their own. This caregiver simply stops in to check on the client periodically throughout the day and assisting as needed. If the client is one that needs more assistance or does not want to be alone, hiring someone to live with them is often the solution.

Financially, hiring a live-in companion might work well for the family as the helper can often times be paid with room and board. This can be a great solution for both sides. No matter if the person is going to work or live with the client, running a check on the caregiver’s background is a must. It is vital that the family knows exactly who is caring for their loved one in order to protect them from being abused, neglected or stolen from.

When looking for someone who can provide these services, it might be advisable to work with an agency as this will help to insure that the person coming into the home is trustworthy and trained to do the job. This is particularly true if health care is the focus of the assistance needed. It is important to realize that those agencies offering personal care assistance likely are not required to have any type of licensure in the state they are operating in. Therefore, even when using an agency for personal care assistance, one should have a background check completed.

There are many different services that are provided to clients by an in home health service. The greatest percentage of clients receive nursing and medical assistance. However, physical and occupational therapy sessions are also high on the list of services. The client might also receive counseling, medication assistance and speech therapy which can be of great service to someone who is unable to leave their home.

Atlanta in home care helps their clients to avoid having to move from their homes. This type of service is very beneficial to people who need but a small amount of assistance to live on their own.
