Facts To Know About Stuffed Bear Toys

By Jill Faulkner

The stuffed bear or also commonly referred to as teddy bear is one that occupies a very unique space in the American culture. Stuffed cuddly animals are very popular since they are regarded as comfort toys for very young children. Aside from that, they also tend to bring back nostalgic memories of childhood for many adults.

The experience of the then-US President, Theodore Roosevelt was what gave rise to the toy name, teddy bear. The whole thing started when he refused to raise his gun against a bear during an expedition his subordinates arranged for him. This story eventually surfaced publicly which inspired Morris Michtom to market his cuddly toys bearing the name, Teddys Bear. Eventually, this name was cut short along the years.

These toys have been intended to be marketed exclusively to young kids. Thus, manufacturers are mandated to follow government regulations concerning toy production. Toys need to have arms and legs connected using specialized safety joints. The eyes should also be securely fastened. Toys that made with outfits should comply with standards on clothing. Typically, these types of toys are machine washable. Still, read through care instructions for assurance.

It is not unlikely to meet some teddy lovers with the desire to experience making their own toys. Most will consider joining workshops that will allow toy customization. Many of these can be found in birthday parties. Workshops will usually leave the choice of clothing and accessories to children. With additional cost, sound effects can even be added.

Because these toys are universally associated with bright childhood memories, finding adults that purchase stuffed bears for their own use is not surprising at all. Adult collectors are referred to as Arctophiles. The term is a combination of the words, Arcto and Philos, which are the Greek terms for bears and love respectively.

An adult interested in keeping a collection of these toys, however, will often opt getting the custom-made collectibles. These usually feature intricate detailing and hand stitching. They are found at high end specialty boutiques or at craft shows, unlike the typical toys displayed on store shelves. Collectibles have not been made following safety rules so they should be kept far from small children.

Soy dipped bears are among the very unique collectibles that many adults purchase. These are originally simple toys found displayed on thrift stores. What crafters do, however, is dip them into candle wax, usually scented, creating decorative display objects. Their scents will typically last up to several months and this makes them beautiful and highly functional fresheners.

It is really difficult to clean these types of toys. If you are planning to get a custom-made one, then most likely, the workshop you attended have some cleaners available. Those you have bought from stores will do fine with detergent and water. Washing must be done at least every month or if deemed necessary.

Make sure that you dry your stuffed bear after you have washed it clean. There are several methods you can try out for this. You can hang your toy exposed under direct sunlight. You may also use a dryer or a blower. Brush your toy afterward so it will regain its fluffiness.
