Nursery Furniture – Baby Slings Compared To Traditional Baby Carriers

By Mia Copperhead

When choosing a baby carrier, you’ve 2 basic options. These two options consist of the standard baby carriers that frequently look like a backpack (worn on either the back or front) or the baby sling. More often than not, a parent might select the traditional style baby carrier because they are not sure about the many advantages a baby sling can provide. Another downside is that because several parents are not familiar with the baby sling, they may not feel it is secure enough to hold their baby. Nevertheless, baby slings can be just as secure as a traditional baby carrier, still keep a lot more benefits in the long term.

One of the main benefits of a baby sling is the way in which the child is positioned close to their parent compared to the backpack style of carry that the typical baby carriers provide. The sling carry is much more convenient for infants who require continuous attention. Being close to mom or dad offers that special bonding time while allowing the parent to tend to her daily routines such as housework or taking care of older kids in the home too.

One more huge advantage of the baby sling is the way in which they help alleviate back pain for mom or dad. Parents understand that carrying around their baby can wreak havoc on the back, causing back pain or irritating an already existing problem. Because the baby sling distributes the baby’s weight more evenly, you’re not as likely to position your lower back in uncomfortable positions to cater to the weight of your baby.

The very best advantage of all as it pertains to the baby sling is the closeness you will have with your young one. Infants need the constant touch and attention from their mom or dad. Being near your child at this early stage of their lives is not spoiling the child which is a common myth. This closeness and bonding is a critical time for both parent and baby. Rather than leaving your infant alone in their crib to fuss or cry while you do housework, you can spend that time bonding.

Other small benefits include the calming effect of being carried regularly. This can prove advantageous if your baby is colic and is very fussy and crying. You may realize that carrying your baby in a baby sling really reduces the amount of crying on a daily basis. Your baby will also benefit from being up and about, instead of lying in a crib all day long.

A typical baby carrier cannot provide these kinds of benefits. Although they’re fantastic for long treks around town, they can’t provide the same closeness and face to face interaction with your infant that a baby sling can.
