One season that seems to strain budgets is summer. It usually means some slow down in business ventures, plus expenses of travel and energy use. We always advise people to plan for these expenses or losses of income all year, but that just does not always happen. Get some quick ideas to cut your bills this summer.
Get a handle on your air conditioning bill. If you live in a warmer part of the world, your air conditioning bills might spike during the summer. I cannot promise a cheap electric bill, but I can give you some simple steps that should lower it without making you too hot!
Can you turn your thermostat up to 78 degrees when you are home, and can you set it even higher when nobody is home? Every one degree change should save about 3 percent of your energy use. So if you had been setting your air conditioner to seventy-two degrees, a six degree difference should save you 18 percent!
Just think about it. If you can save 18 percent, and you use about $200 of cooling a month, you will be richer by about one hundred bucks for the three hottest months of summer.
If you cannot stand the heat, try using fans. They make rooms feel cooler by circulating the air. Portable fans are very cheap, and ceiling fans should pay for themselves in a short time.
One other bill that many people do not think about cutting is the bill for insurance. Insurers are different, and some are just friendlier to different types of people. Besides, if you have not shopped around for insurance for awhile, you may qualify for discounts that you did not even know about before.
Online quote forms are one simple and quick way to compare quotes. Even a 15 percent rate cut could save you a lot. If you pay $200 a month, for example, for your auto and home insurance, you could be saving $360 a year. Many good quote forms can find you larger savings than that.
