Decorating Your Walls

By Abbie Osborne-Wilson

If your walls are bare and you want to change them you have several ways that you can go about this change. A simple addition of a photo may be something to think of, but perhaps you want something else that will make more of a statement. Try any of these ideas out put up a collage or wall ornaments even adding an area rug on the wall. Think of creative ways to make the walls look better.

The biggest problem that most people have is decorating their walls enough. Some add too much, while yet others will only have a few items on the wall leaving it a bit bare. But you can add more color and texture to the wall, and create a special feeling of warmth and comfort too.

Collages, for example, are a very unique idea to cover up a large chunk of space on the wall. You can use any variety of images that strikes your fancy, from Hawaiian vacation postcards to old family photos. Collage projects are very simple and fairly easy to do: you start by cutting out the photos and gluing them onto a poster board.

Adding in some scrapbook materials on the board will help create a unique look for your collage. The finished product you can either get framed or frame it all by yourself. The price for a collage will be the board, glue, and framing. Most likely this whole project can be completed with only spending $20. If you have kids let them help in the creation of the collage they will love it.

Another option that you could install on your walls are ready made wall hangings. These are available at home decor stores and come in various designs and materials including glass or wood. They are also very easy to mount and, aside from being wall decoration, also serve as holders for candles and other decorative items. Mirrors are another option that work very well in most rooms; large mirrors even have the added benefit of making a room seem much larger.

An area rug doesn’t just need to be placed on the floor. A great look is to buy a Persian rug, or any kind that you like and place it up on the wall. This gives the wall a nice look, and can be your own unique creation. You don’t need to buy an expensive rug to place on the wall, just make sure it adds to the room and doesn’t take away.

Most importantly you should use creativity and try different ideas to decorate your walls. Good luck on your home project.
