Easy Steps To Revamping Your Teen’s Room Into An Uber Hip Space

By Abbie Osborne-Wilson

Decorating an adolescent’s room can be tricky because of the fussy taste and ever-changing moods of the young one, but it can also be loads of fun. Think of funky designs and cool colors. Remember to choose items that will stand the test of your preteen’s hip standards.

Check your kid’s room. Is there a need for a new bed and curtains? Should you have the carpet washed? Do you think it’s time to repaint the walls? These things are not too pricey, except maybe for having to buy a new bed. Still the same, you can think of it as an investment until the years when your kid comes home on visits from college and from work. Consider new items that you need to add. However, don’t miss out in adding a nice chair where your teen can laze around while surfing the internet, watching TV and reading. Your kid will love the new addition of comfort.

One important thing to add is good lighting. A lamp made for studying is not all generic. There are funky lamps in contemporary designs, bright colors and even artworks, which your teen will surely appreciate. It will show that mom has good taste. Very hip and young!

Have new beddings, specifically those in your teenager’s preferred colors. Restrain yourself from hoarding cute yellows and blues with details that might work for a grade-schooler but won’t do anymore for your almost grown-up child. For all you know, your supposed baby is now into everything black. Go ahead and check out his closet or take a peek at her nail polish. Ask your kid for the ideal color and don’t object if the answer is orange or anything beyond your comprehension. What can you do? Teenagers do have a weird fashion sense.

Add and change colors in the room through decorative materials. Colors are also seen in the bed covers, so have a nice shopping spree selecting a more grown-up version of your teen’s former cartoon character inspired bed sheets. If you’re both up to it and you have the time and budget, you can repaint the walls or change the wallpaper if that’s what the room has. A change in wall color can instantly transform the room’s look.

Lastly, make the room your child’s own. If you’ve adorned the living room with family photos and the like, let your kid express his/her personality through the decors of his/her choice. It can be movie posters, hanging items (don’t say anything!), record case, magazine racks, bulletin board with hundreds of post-its and stickers, and other stuff teenager’s like to surround themselves with. Pitch in some suggestions of nicely colored pillows, scented candles and flowers. Who knows, your teenager might welcome the idea.
