There Are A Couple Of Things You Should Learn About Fibre-Optic Cable Installation

By Stanley Mostofocleze

Fibre optic cable installation is something that many people will wish to know about. There are many reasons for this including the fact that these cables are fast becoming an important part of the communications industry. There are many things that you should know about this before you start installing.

The most important part of the installation would be the actual cable. There are many kinds of cables and it is best to know a bit about all of them. The simplex and zip cord is one of them and it is made of two highly buffered fibers. Having several double buffered fibers will make a distribution cable while a few simplex cables put together will be a breakout cable. If the cable has a bunch of fibers all packed in a single tube and wound around a central member then it is a loose tube cable.

Now that you know a bit about the type of cables it is important to look for ratings and markings on the cables when you buy them. You should never install a cable that does not have any. The ratings codes are OFN, OFC, OFNG or OFCG, OFNR or OFCR, OFNP or OFCP and OFN-LS.

Pulling the cables is just another step in the installation process of any cable. When you are pulling these cables there are a number of things that you may want to keep in mind. When pulling the cables it is important to never pull on the fibers but rather on the strength member. It is also important to not exceed the maximum pulling rating that the cable has. Something else to keep in mind is to never exceed the bend radius or to twist the cable.

All this is best used when you combine it with an understanding of the area you are installing in. You should do a survey of the area so you can see if there are any problem sites. Things like high temperature may cause some problems during installation. You should also look at all the regulations that may be in place in the area regarding fibre optic cable installation.

Knowing all of this is fine but if you want there are some other things you keep in mind when installing these cables. When you are pulling you should try and have this done manually. If you can’t then having a mechanism that has a tension control where you can check tension values is best. Any jerking of cables and pulling on the randomly should be avoided. The pulling of the cables should be done in a smooth single motion for the best results.

There are a few things that you will have to do before you can go about fibre optic cable installation. Having a survey of the area done and getting the right cables are just two of them.

fibre optic cable installation The bend radius should never be exceeded and you must not twist the cable. Loose tube cables have a lot of fibers in a single plastic tube which is wrapped around the central strength member. Part of the installation process will include the pulling of the cables.
