Should You Rent Or Own?

By Ace Winget

Are you moving and looking for a new place to stay? It can be hard to know where to go. You can be faced to have your Utah movers move you in to an apartment, or you could have the Utah movers move your items in to your very own place.

Which is better? There are advantages and disadvantages to owning and renting. For example, when you own your own home you are stuck with the responsibility of keeping up with home repairs and yard work.

In an apartment you are not responsible for repairs or yard work, your landlord is. If the sink gets clogged, it is up to the landlord to contact the plumber or get it fixed. As long as it was normal wear and tear you are not responsible for getting things fixed.

Apartments are also better options, generally, for people who are not going to be residing in the area long. People needing a more short-term housing arrangement usually use them. Homes are more long-term investments.

However, there may be a lack of privacy when living in an apartment. You will be living right next to neighbors. Depending on how light the walls are, you might have to deal with annoying, loud neighbors and will have little freedom to do anything about it – at least until the proclaimed “quiet time”, which usually doesn’t start until 10:00 at night. At your home, you don’t have to worry about disturbing neighbors that are right across the wall.

If you own pets an apartment can also cause a problem. Some apartments have a strict no pet policy. Apartments that do allow pets usually charge a substantial fee.

Perhaps the biggest consideration is money. When you own your homes, the payments you make every month go towards your mortgage interest and your home. When you rent, all money goes to your landlord. You will never see that money again. There is zero investment with renting, while you are making payments towards something when you own. That can be a big deal to someone who is sticking around in the area for a while.

There are a lot of advantages and disadvantages to consider when deciding whether you want to rent or buy a home. Do some research and go over the pros and cons for your situation. Then when the time comes for your Utah movers to come move your home you will feel at ease knowing you made the right decision with your new choice of location.
