Quality life is only achievable through a harmonious environment. Achieving this state of ecological system permits living species to interact with every other element in a given area, including the non-living objects, and accomplish their roles in their local environment.

Pest control is one of the strategies that are aimed at attaining a balanced ecological system. Pests as we all know are harmful to agricultural crops and human health.

Their existence, like other biological species, of course signifies an intended objective. However, their population tends to grow uncontrollably that the necessity to create a pest management system is necessary to keep other biological species, particularly humans, secure from these disastrous organisms.

Experts in this field have accepted though that a single approach to pest control is not as effective as the integrated pest management system. Studies showed that integrated pest management are rather cost-effective and environmental friendly compared to those single approaches to pest control.

The reason behind it is that the causes of the population explosion among pests vary from one place to another. Moreover, each community provides distinct reasons why they want to regulate the population of pests.

For instance, farmers ensure that their crops will grow healthy by eliminating the destructive pests. While in highly urbanized areas pest control could be mainly employed to forest parks to maintain the naturally beautiful shapes of the leaves of trees and shrubs. In residential areas often all it takes is to observe proper waste disposal and build a drainage system to eliminate the breeding grounds of many pests.

Integrated pest management also requires individuals to conduct three procedural steps: identifying the problem, monitoring the behavior of pests, and determining what combinations of pest control schemes to create in order to solve the problem.

True, it could take time and effort to see actual results when integrated pest management is utilized. But in the long run, this pest management method promotes the supposed common grounds of all pest management system, which are ecological and cost-effective.
