Turn Your Home Into A Haunted House For Halloween

By John Spencer

When asked, there aren’t too many people who would list Halloween as one of their favourite holidays or events. This probably has a lot to do with the fact that it doesn’t constitute a public holiday and therefore it can tend to be ‘just another day’ for most people, this can be a great shame as it is a great excuse for a party, to get dressed up and have a great time.

If you are going to host your own Halloween get together the first thing you will need to do is sort out a suitable place to host it. If you are having a small gathering of friends and family then it could be the perfect opportunity to host it in your own home. This can really make a party and also be the most cost-effective way too – you could even put the extra money towards adding some finishing touches to your costume!

If you are going to host your own party at home then you’ll need to make sure there is enough space for everyone. Move as much as you can into your garage, or better still, if you have a sizable garage move as much as you can out of there and use that! With some customised storage and a few garage floor tiles you’ll have a room ready to go and all of your valuables safely out of the way!

When you have made space the next thing to do is think about spooky decorations! Don’t hold back on cobwebs, skeletons and any images of ghosts or ghouls you can find – if you have children they can help you design some scary images to attach the walls and doors. If you are holding the party in your garage, why not add some more scary ornaments in your garden and let the party spill out – what about a fake grave yard or for a high tech effect, hide a portable CD player to play scary sounds or wolf howls!

Another advantage of having your Halloween party at home is that food can be much more easily prepared and served. Halloween themed food can be difficult, so why not go for something like pumpkin soup or homemade biscuits in the shape of witches or ghosts? The beauty of having a home party is that you can always raid the fridge if the party food starts to run out!

Parties at home can be a bit more stressful than using an external venue, but with the right preparation they can be a breeze, and of course enjoyable! Making space is one particular challenge that will need to be overcome, but don’t forget to make full use of all the storage space your house has to offer including your garage and you may be surprised at how much space you really have!
