Solid wood furniture often holds a special place in our homes because it is so durable and can easily be passed down from one generation to the next. Well built wood furniture is hard to come by these days and often costs a small fortune when bought new. More and more people are buying older pieces of wooden furniture and refinishing them back to their previous beauty. The process of changing a forgotten piece of wood furniture that has been forgotten and restoring it to a noteworthy piece of art can be time consuming but the final results are worth it. If you have persistence and a little bit of curiosity then it isn’t difficult to restore most wood furniture pieces. Restoring simple pieces of furniture is always less challenging when you’re first starting out, so you might want to begin with a piece like a simple chair or even an old door. Here are the general steps you’ll follow to restore just about any wooden pieces of furniture:

You’ll first want to remove any old paint or finish carefully without harming the wood beneath it. You can reveal the bare wood surface of a piece of furniture with chemicals, specially designed brushes and lots of elbow grease. After cleaning off all the old finish you’ll want to sand every side of the furniture piece you’re refurbishing.
