How To Take Care Of Funeral Costs

By Ruth Smith

Although not a taboo subject, many people will often not discuss funeral arrangements until the passing of a loved one or friend. When the time comes to seek out a Funeral Director, in the UK it is often done in a whirlwind of emotion and with little forethought.

One way of making sure that this does not happen is by investing in a ‘fully guaranteed’ pre-paid funeral plan with one of the many Funeral Directors in the UK. This guarantees that if a person pays for their funeral at today’s prices, the items and services included in the plan will be carried out regardless of how much the cost may have risen since the plan was taken out. The cost of even a modest funeral has increased considerably in recent years and, as tends to be the case, this is like to continue.

Another benefit a funeral insurance plan holds is that many can be personalised so you can add special touches to your funeral – perhaps a special poem, piece of music, or type of flowers. Alternatively, you can go one step further and take out a tailor-made funeral plan, which allows you to specify exactly how you want your funeral to be carried out; it can be as elaborate or simple as you wish, as long as it is purchased in advance.

It is entirely natural to be concerned about the provision for your loved ones when you’re no longer around to look after them yourself. You may have considered taking out a life insurance policy, or have even been putting money aside for such an eventuality, but with a funeral insurance things can be taken a step further.

It’s important to look carefully at what’s included in the actual funeral plan, as these can vary from one funeral provider to another. A ‘fully guaranteed’ funeral insurance means there will be no more to pay at the time of the funeral for the items included in the plan, regardless of how costs rise in the future. Again, it’s important to check if the Funeral Director and third party costs (also known as ‘disbursements’) are fully guaranteed, or if only a fixed contribution will be paid toward these costs. Check the small print!

You are able to choose a payment plan that suits you best and perhaps above all else, you are also able to specify the arrangements to your liking, and your personal wishes can be expressed.
