Some Advice For Beach House Decor

By Rebecca McKeich

The stores these days have so many ideas for coastal decor in them that you don’t know where to start. Make your design your own and these guidelines will help you on your journey to a one of a kind perfect style made just for you.

Decorating in modern beach house themes you will need to keep the space free from clutter, comfortable, inviting and a place you and your family feel at home in.

The biggest tip to go by is to let nature’s beauty inspire you in your design. There are so many things in nature we take for granted. Just think how lovely some seashells, beach colored walls and even palm trees placed strategically around your home would look.

Paint is at reasonable prices these days so use nature inspired color palettes. Think about the blue of the ocean, the natural tan color of the sand and the pinks of the shells. These colors will work in whatever room you wish to show off your beach home decorating.

Bare window ideas for beach house decorating work best but if you have to have a window trim on them then pick very sheer fabrics or use valances in colors like white or beige. The more natural light that is let in, the more like a coastal cottage it will feel.

You can save on redoing or buying new furniture by making your own slip covers out of fabrics you think best suit your beach theme. If you aren’t a sewing kind of person you can also find them in stores ready to go for a fraction of the cost of brand new furniture.

Look for quirky beach items or one of a kind things that go with the beach vibe you are aiming for. You never know where the perfect thing may be lurking so keep your eyes open when out on the town. Candles are wonderful included in any beach decor as they give off the glow of the warm summer sun. They come in so many designs now that you can have your pick of colors and sizes and they are easily found at thrift stores and discount stores.

Place a few stalks of bamboo around and make arrangements in corners or entryways. You can also find the perfect items to add to your design at antique malls and even local flea markets. Some of the best treasures have been found in these places.

Don’t forget about the outside of your house as well, such as porches and flower beds. Decorate using the same beach style theme on the outdoors too. You could make planters out of old diving helmets, place fishing net up and even incorporate pebbles and shells into your flower beds for even more added elegance.

You can save even more money by making many of your own decorating items such as candle arrangements, flower arrangements, mosaics using sea glass or broken colored glass, shells, mirrors even paintings. Let your imagination be your guide and you can’t go wrong.

There are so many wonderful ideas to create the perfect coastal cottage decor, but the thing to remember is to make sure it fits your style. Add nautical touches wherever you feel you want them and choose the design because you like it. Following these tips will help you along your way to magnificent coastal decorating.
