Ideas for styling a teenager’s bedroom
When parents come to decorate a teenager’s bedroom it can be difficult to get right as they are usually extremely difficult to please and what they want in their bedroom will change quite regularly as they get older. The best thing to do with a teenager’s bedroom is to make it as neutral and prepared for change as possible so that when the do want something different it isn’t difficult or costly to make the changes which they want.
The first thing to consider and one of the most important is the colour of the bedroom. Although a teenager might want dark colours or a specific colour scheme these will be difficult to alter and will offer little light in the room. Light neutral colours provide a lot of light but can also be painted over very easily if the room needs to be changed after a few years. It is much easier to furnish a neutrally coloured room too.
Teenagers will also be coming to the stage where they will need more space to do work for school and then college and possibly even university. Incorporating a desk into the bedroom is a great idea as it encourages them to do work but also gives them somewhere to sit and do things instead of always having to sit on their bed.
Teenagers are usually quite untidy people and so the more storage space in their room the better. Shelves, drawers and cupboards are a really good way to encourage teenagers to be tidy and to give them somewhere to put everything. Another thing to consider is a washing basket to avoid clothes being left all over the floor.
The flooring is another important decision. Carpets are likely to get things spilt on them and will probably not fit in if the colour of the room is changed. Laminate flooring is a really good option for a teenager’s bedroom as it can be wiped clean, looks very modern and fits in with most different colour schemes as well.
