The living room is the most lived area in a majority of homes. It is where the family gathers, watches television, plays video games, and unwinds. It is also the main gathering area when you have a large crowd of friends over for a get together. Over the years, this room can become worn, outdated, and virtually an eye sore.

If would like to remodel, but money is tight then you should remember that by setting a budget, you can have the look you want without killing your bank account. The cheapest method of making your living room uplifting is to do a good cleaning. It may take some work, but it will make a huge difference. Begin by gathering three boxes or trash bags. In the first box, put all the trash you find. Flip over couch cushions and look under the pieces of furniture. You’ll may be amazed of what you will find hiding. Who knows you might find a few dollars. In the second box, place all the items that you find that you no longer use or want and either sell or give them away. The third box is for the things that belong in another room. You will be amazed how much more space you have once all the shoes, toys and books are back in their proper rooms.

Cleaning the living room on a regular basis is important. Sometimes however, we don’t clean the “roads less traveled.” We forget the ceiling and the cobwebs that may be accumulating, furnishings like brass and glass that need polishing and retouching and the fan/air condition that needs to be thoroughly cleaned as it can exhaust air with dust, hence making all your cleaning go to waste in the end.

Look at the floor. Sure, you sweep, mop and vacuum, but have you checked under the area rug? That space needs as much cleaning too. Not because it has been protected by the rug that you can already forgo it. What if you decide to transfer the rug to another spot? Too much dirt can actually stain the floor. Clean your rug too. If it needs dry cleaning, then bring it to the drycleaners. Dust it off, wash it or hang it outside for a breather.

Add colors! It can be through the throw pillows, curtains, drapes and cushions. If you have time on your hands, you can repaint the walls or a section of it for some redecorating. The color of the season is a safe choice, but for longevity, go for colors that you like. Seeing a shade that uplifts you, adds to the fun factor of spending time in this room.

You might also consider changing your area rug. Using a “new” rug is not just buying a brand new one. You can use a rug from another room as long as it suits the living room’s color and design. Alternatively, you can add another rug in the living room if you can spare some dollars. The living room will look great with another splash of color and pattern. Moreover, you’ll love the comfort that has been increased a notch with the addition of a new area rug.
