Moving In Cleveland – The Less Stressful Way
Chaos, stress, and moving always seem to go hand in hand. Whether professional Cleveland Movers are used or you rent a truck and do it yourself, the upheaval of the move will always create a situation of turmoil. The difference between manageable stress and complete bedlam all depends on how organized you are before the move even begins.
The most important organizational tool needed when moving is the creation and use of the “moving book.” This book consists of a notebook in a multi-purpose binder/keeper that also contains a business card holder, a see through zipper pouch, and two envelopes. Each day gets a page in the notebook where check lists and phone calls are recorded. Telephone numbers of rental agents and real tors, mortgage and moving companies, and handymen are written in this notebook. Every business card handed to you during the move is filed away in the business card holder.
Wallpaper and flooring samples as well as drapery and paint swatches are stored in the zipper pouch (this is to ensure that you get the products you have paid for). Receipts in reference to the old house/apartment are kept in one envelope while the receipts from the new house/apartment are kept in the other. This will guarantee that you will be able to take the full tax credit the following April.
After the move the moving book is still useful. It can be used to record appointments with utility service people and handymen. Important phone numbers in your new community can be stored within its pages. It also is a handy place to keep maps of your new hometown. It may also be very hard to get great replacement car keys.
Another moving essential is the creation of a “survival box.” This is a box that contains all of the essentials you and your family needs in order to live one day and one night in the new place. Dependent on your situation, this box should contain:o Coffee maker and filters (or kettle and tea bags)o A bedtime story plus blankets, pillows, and stuffed animals for small children A set of sheets, blankets, and pillows for everyone in the family An alarm clock A set of breakfast bowls, spoons, and cereal A laptop A change of underwear and socks for everyone in the family Personal hygiene items like toothbrushes, toothpaste, hairbrushes/combs, and maintenance medications Basic toolkit for all those unexpected repairs A first aid kit for those unexpected injuries
The last item on the truck should be the survival box and the first item off the truck should the be the survival box. This box should be brightly colored/decorated and placed somewhere within easy reach at the new house. The first night in your new home will go smoothly with the items in this box.
While renting a truck and recruiting a bunch of friends to help you move might seem like a less expensive approach, using a professional moving company may save you a lot of heartache in the end. Many times friends and family do not show up. Also, the professionals know how to move all types of furniture in and out of what seems to be impossible door and hallways. Professionals are experienced in how to load a truck in such a way that items do not get damaged. Check the Yellow Pages for Cleveland Movers such as AAA Moving & Storage Company.
