Originally established as a trading company by the Morimura Brothers in New York in 1876, they imported chinaware, paper lanterns, knick knacks and other gift items. The trading company was established in the village of Noritake, Japan in 1904 and took the name Noritake as its official company name. The first task of the newly named company was to create western style dinner ware for export. It was not until 1914 that the first porcelain dinner plate was ready to export. The earliest dinner plates were hand painted using gold as the primary color. In 1920, Noritake had established an assembly line technique for mass production.
