Imbuing Your Home With The Spirit Of The Orient

By Abbie Osborne-Wilson

The Oriental decorating style is one of the hardest styles to achieve because the key to this style is simplicity. When wanting to achieve this style doing your research is the secret to a successful look and feel to your space. There are many television shows and websites available for tips on how best to achieve this style with little frustration.

When looking for colors for your room, choosing sharply contrasting colors are the best way to achieve this look. Using blacks and whites or reds and dark greens will give your room the perfect starting point for this style. It is important to note that your room should have a very comfortable feel to it once the colors have been placed. The colors should complement each other and leave the space visually calm.

Furniture that is used in the Oriental decorating is to remain simple, just like the Oriental look itself. Rattan furniture is usually a very perfect fit to this design, though you can get a more modern look with some darker leather furniture. With the tables you should bring in some beautiful lacquered pieces. Add some spice to the area by throwing in some reds, gold or even a nice turquoise color in pillows or rugs.

You may jump at the thought of an Oriental rug, thinking it may be the only rug that you can purchase and use in this look. But it’s not true, you can use other neutral colors and they can add some great warmth to your room. Not that you can’t use a nice traditional oriental rug though.

Accessories in your room that are bright in color will add some fantastic atmosphere to your oriental setting. Get some romantic candles in red and place them in different areas of the room. Try adding a nice small fountain that will add some sound to the feel of the room. Or try some accessories such as elephants, silk kimonos, dragons, fans, or even some nice silk prints. You will find that the amount and type of accessories are a lot of different styles.

The hardest thing about the oriental style is keeping it nice and simple. Adding too much to the oriental look will only cause a busy type feeling that will make the room seem much too chaotic. Don’t add too much to the room, but make sure you have enough added extras to also make the room look unique too. Remember there are enough of the accessories that will add to your oriental look. There are so many types of accessories on the market. Just remember to make sure your look isn’t too busy, but a simple oriental look.

If you found this information about rug decorating helpful, then you will adore these oriental area rugs.
