How to create your own Infant Car Seat Cover
By Claire James
The reason for wanting to make a cover for your baby seat or capsule is obviously because you want a comfier and more vibrant place for your baby to sit, but there is also the joy of knowing you created it yourself. I wont say it will save you money, because by the time you buy everything you need it will be around the same if not more than a new baby car seat cover, but that is not the point. So how do you go about making one then?
Your local craft store will have all the necessary fabrics and materials necessary, and hopefully they have a great range of patterns and color fabrics for you to choose from. This is the fun bit because you decide what your baby car seat will look like at this stage. Once you have chosen the fabric and materials, this is what you need to do:
First things first – fabric! This is crucial because not only does it become the color and pattern of the finished product, it is also where you choose the type of fabric. I would recommend cotton as it breathes the easiest and is the most comfortable for your child.
You should remove all the seams on the old car seat. This will allow you to get pattern which you can use in your car. When sewing, make sure that all edges align. This will give you good results and make a perfect seat cover.
Make sure you sew the edges perfectly and cut off any excess fabric from the seams. Before you then use your sewing machine, make sure that all the pins have been removed and again confirm that you are sewing in the right place and on the right side! Believe me, even the best of us make this mistake from time to time!
The cover could then be festooned with glitter and sparkles, or you could tie ribbon to the seams. The point is, just remember that this is why you are creating a cover in the first place – so you could do what you wanted and make it unique
It’s optional, but can make the sear covers look beautiful. All these will ensure that your baby can ride in the car comfortably with you, as well as now enjoying the beautiful surround of a vibrant and fun car seat cover that everyone will enjoy.
