I never had kids of my personal. I often said I’d have children when you could put them away till they had been teenagers due to the fact I didn’t want to deal with poopy diapers, sticky fingers and cheese sandwiches stuck in the VCR.

Lo and behold… when I met my wife she had 3 kids who had been 12, 14 and 15 years old! Careful what you wish for! Fifteen years later I now consider them my youngsters. And none of the poopy diaper, sticky finger, cheese sandwich stuff, either!

And then it occurred… I hadn’t even thought about this… GRANDkids! What? A entire new generation of sticky, poopy, sandwich lovin’ VCR hatin’ folks coming up by means of the stepkids. Damn.

Now, not only have I by no means raised my personal children, but I was also an only child as nicely. I have NO encounter with little kids at this point in my life. The to begin with time somebody tried giving me my grandson I wanted to hold him upside down by his ankle as far away from me as achievable (he might poop, ya know)… I mean, NO experience and incredibly uncomfortable around youngsters. It is now almost four years later and, I have to say, funny how time alterations items. What I’ve located out about children is that I am a single of them. I have no issue relating on their level. Somehow it comes incredibly naturally to me. I still have nothing at all to do with diapers, don’t like sticky fingers, and a cheese sandwich is challenging to get in a DVD player, but… as far as hangin’ with the beneath 4 generation – I am IN!

What I’ve found is there are just those times with kids when issues occur that can touch your heart like nothing at all else can. I enjoy the period right before they fall asleep, either watching Television on the couch or reading books with them. From time to time we just lay on the bed together and appear at the glow stars on the ceiling as they drift off to sleep.
