A popular response elicited by low grades is getting a tutor. To a lot of parents, it’s actually the first solution that enters their minds. It’s not clear whether this is because of the proliferation of tuition agencies which consequently makes searching for tutors or private instructors easy. While there is really nothing wrong about doing this, especially since tutoring is noted to be very beneficial, you need to first assess the situation and ask yourself important questions.

Is tutoring truly the solution to your child’s academic woes? This is one of the essential questions you must respond to. Answering this question requires identifying the cause of the problem – poor grades. You have to understand that poor academic performance is not always the product of a kid’s difficulty to understand school lessons. At times, it’s about your child’s inability to focus due to various activities he/she is involved in, too much television or video games time, or emotional distress.

While addressing the aforementioned situations by hiring a tutor may help, there is no assurance that it can end the problem. You’re just like providing a band-aid solution. Thus, if your child’s low grades are because of lack of focus due to a lot of activities, adding tutoring session to her/his schedule may worsen matters. So, rather than hiring a tutor, it’d be best to minimize the activities first and take it from there.

Do you have the money for this? This is the next matter you have to address. You have to remember that this is not a one-time thing. You cannot schedule one tuition session for your child and expect wonderful results after it. Experts say that the realistic time frame at which results can be expected from tutoring is three to four months with at least two to three sessions conducted per week. Consequently, this would necessitate a considerable amount of money. For this reason, check your finances before deciding to get a tutor.

Whilst there are other questions pals or experts in the field can ask you to evaluate the situation accurately, those stated above are sufficient for you to come up with a sound decision. So, if you really need to hire one, make use of the Internet to find a tutor. With countless tutor agencies having websites, you can search for the tutor you need stress-free and quickly.
