Try This Before Calling An Air Conditioning Repair Company

By Paul Cameron

There are times that you might experience problems with your air conditioning, and you don’t really know what you should do. However, there are some simple steps you can take before you call in an air conditioning repair service. With a small bit of effort, you might be able to avoid large repair bills. Here are some troubleshooting tips to help you figure out the problem and how to repair it.

What you need to do will be dependent on what the problem is. If nothing is working at all, the problem might be the power source or your settings. The first step is to make absolutely sure that the system is getting power. Locate the power connection and test it.

If that didn’t fix the problem, inspect the unit to make sure all the settings are correct. You’d be surprised how many air conditioning repair calls could be avoided with these simple steps.

Sometimes your air conditioning unit is delivering air, but it’s not being cooled. There are several things that could be going on if this is the case. The first thing you need to do is determine the amount of air being pushed through the unit. If the flow is weak, there may be a problem with the blower or the duct system.

After that, inspect the blower unit to see what kind of shape it’s in. If it has a buildup of dirt, this probably indicates that the blower is turning but can’t get any air moving. All you have to do is take it out, clean it, and put it back. This simple technique can save you a lot of money.

Something else that can cause problems with air flow is if your ducts and filters are dirty. Locate the filter, take it out, and put in a new one. This is another easy thing that you can do on your own and costs very little.

If it all appears to be clean, take a look at the ducts to ensure that they are properly connected and clear of any debris. Shine a flashlight down. If it’s dark in the room you will be able to see light shining through. But you should be able to see the separation easily if it’s an obvious leak.

Another common cause of a drop in cooling capacity is icing of the compressor. This is also something you can fix yourself. Turn off the unit and let it warm up. The ice will melt right off. Be certain that all the ice has melted before turning the air conditioning unit back on.

If fixing your air conditioner doesn’t work, you might be looking at buying a new one. Ductless home air conditioning systems are becoming more and more popular as people discover their many advantages. Find out more about how to keep your cool at the Air Conditioning Information site.
