Snow pants are usually worn over regular clothing and are meant to protect the legs from the cold and the snow in the winter time. They are often used by skiers and other outdoor winter aficionados and are very popular as outer wear for small children to protect them from moisture and cold expected with the snow.
Snow pants come in several different styles. There are some that come with suspenders to keep them in place, while others have elastic waists to keep them in place. They can also come as part of a snow suit with a matching jacket, and there are styles that are made like bib overalls. The bib overall styles are a favorite because they keep the snow from sliding down the back. This style of pants are very much favored to ski in; they keep the legs warm and dry. They are often times a part of a uniform for folks that work out in the elements. They can even be very feminine, as many styles come in colors that are quite bright.
Typically made out of a water proof material that has some sort of thermal property to it, snow pants are usually composed of a polyester blend. They are priced at anywhere from under $100 to over $500 depending on their quality. Not only does the quality matter, but where you purchase them from as well as the manufacturer. They are rated by different temperature zones. Those that are to be used on a ski trip or for a romp in the snow at home will have a lower cold weather rating than ones that are going to be used to trudge through the arctic. Each pair is appropriate for a different use.
Keep in mind when purchasing that the ability to deal with harsher and colder weather will drive up the price on these pants. Obviously, children’s pants are a bit cheaper than pants made for adults. A great thing to keep in mind, though, is that a good pair can last through many Winters. It’s a Winter staple, so, if you deal with harsh ones, it’s a great idea to invest your money in a good pair. Style also plays a role in the price of these pants. If you want a bib overall type instead of the plain elastic waist varieties, you will have to shell out a bit of extra cash. The elastic waist type are the least expensive variety of snow pants that you can find.
If you want to keep your legs warm, dry, and ensure that you will be comfortable no matter what activity you are doing out in the snow, whether it be skiing, snowboarding, tobogoning, sledding, or having a snowball fight, snow pants are a must.
There are several different types of cold resistant pants that you can find, some of which are better for working in the snow, while others are great just to have a good time.
