Suggestions To Help You Manage Your Laundering Responsibilities

By Rose Moore

You may be like many people and find that laundry sometimes piles up and you become overwhelmed. If you find that dirty clothes seem to overflow your hampers, and clean clothes sit folded in baskets if they even make it out of the dryer at all, you need a laundry makeover. Here are some tips for helping you come up with a better system.

First, designate a laundry day. You need a schedule of when you will be doing laundry, and you need to stick to this schedule. You want a set day that you complete all laundry tasks, from washing and drying to folding and putting away.

That doesn’t mean the laundry has to be a full load. Just do whatever you have on the designated day. If you have a lot of laundry, or are doing laundry for several people, you may need more than one laundry day per week. Regardless, stick to your schedule and get it all done on the designated day.

Can you streamline your wardrobe? One reason people become overwhelmed by laundry is because they have far too many clothes. Ask yourself if you really need and wear all of your items. Do you have five black shirts, or ten pair of jeans? Maybe you have too many clothes in general and cutting back would help. Take a day to go through them and get rid of the excess.

Children add to a laundry burden. Older children, though, should be doing laundry tasks. After the age of 10 a child can help with their laundry. Even younger children can be taught to put away their clean clothes. Help them master tasks until they are ready to wash, dry, fold, and put away their own items. That will cut down on your laundry volume a lot.

Arrange your laundry area and use a hanging bar or hooks. If you have clothes that can’t go in the dryer, or that need to come out of the dryer promptly and get hung up so they don’t wrinkle, this will save you a ton of time. It also helps prevent laundry clutter.

A laundry space that is big enough should also have a laundry table. If you have a table nearby you can take clothes out of the dryer and fold them right on the table immediately. They won’t have time to wrinkle, and then they’ll be all ready to be put away.

If you follow these tips, you’ll do better at keeping your laundry to a reasonable level. You don’t have to live with laundry piled everywhere and teetering out of control.
