Table runners are a small detail that can make all the difference in your kitchen or dining room. These decorations have been in use for generations as additional accents to a special family meal on holidays or other special occasions. Could a nice runner make your dining table and the surrounding area look all that much better?
Choosing the right table runners can be difficult, because there are so many out there for you to choose from. There are many designs, colors, and materials for you to pick and choose from in order to come up with the perfect runners for your dining room’s decor. Runners are a small detail, but it is important that they work with the rest of the decor in the room you will be putting one or two in to maintain color and design harmony.
Most table runners are made of either silk or polyester. Silk is the more expensive option, but most people will not be able to tell the difference between the two unless they touch the runner itself. Polyester is your best bet if you are on a budget but still want to be able to get an attractive runner for your dining table. Whichever you choose, be sure that you carefully match the colors and designs of the runner with those in your dining room or kitchen.
The most popular designs are Victorian and Oriental for their flowing and beautiful styles. They also work well with most types of decorating, making it easier to work them into your already existing decor. The color is important as well, and the most common colors that you will come across will be red, beige, burgundy, green, and tan. Often they are at least two colors, depending on the exact style.
You should choose a runner or runners that are a third of the table width. Also be sure that there are twelve inches free long-wise so that six inches can hang off of each side of the table with ease. This is the proper method to display runners and it leaves a stunning impression.
If you have a tablecloth, then you are going to want to place your runner in the middle of the table on top of the tablecloth. This really makes table runners stand out, especially if the runner that you choose happens to be much darker than your tablecloth.
Though table runs are not on the top of everyone’s shopping list, they are still attractive additions to even the most elegant of dining tables.
