Many say English is a complicated language to study and speak. However when one looks at the complexities of some other lingoes, with their male and feminine forms and various tenses, it actually compares favorably in the area of simplicity. The fact that it’s so commonly used in so many countries and media and it is, in fact, quite a simple language to study. There are many ways of learning English and methods for making it easier for yourself.

People who spend a lot of time in a foreign country find it easiest to pick up their language and so it is with this tongue. Doing this keeps you immersed in the lingo all day and forces you to learn new things constantly. It’s a lot of fun as well. If you’re one of the unlucky ones unable to do this, don’t worry. Simply turn your home into an English one, where the language is available to you where ever you look. Buy films and newspapers, find the right talk show channels on the radio and find television channels using the lingo.

If your decision is to study in a school, select one with native speakers. This way you’ll hear the correct accent and flow. It’s no good picking up the errors of second language speakers.

If you maintain practice in 4 aspects, you’ll improve quickly. That is read and listen, speak and write. The more you put in, the more you get out. School will be helpful but it’s possible to study without it.

You can incorporate reading by hiring subtitled movies. Talk radio, because it doesn’t have periods of silence, is the quickest way to listen to as many words as possible in a short space of time. You can do it without committing time to it by playing it in your car or when you’re doing house work.

You’ll struggle with comprehension unless you devote a lot of time to improving your vocabulary. Keep a notebook or cards and write down five words and definitions daily. Read through them often and your word power will keep growing.

Daily writing for a half hour is helpful. Take out that notebook and use those words. Research their different tenses and use them.

If you don’t have any native speakers to talk to, read out loud from books for 1 to 2 hours a day. You can begin with kids’ literature and move up slowly till you reach classic fiction and newspapers. You’ll also find much to read on the web.

Don’t be afraid of errors. You won’t be able to learn without making them. When someone corrects you, it’s a good thing, not a criticism. Ask a lot of questions, too when you don’t understand something, otherwise your ignorance will grow until you feel left behind.

People often dislike tests but they play an important role. They’ll be encouraging because they’ll reveal your improvement. Again, refer to the internet to find them or buy graded workbooks.

Keep your reading and hearing balanced with your speech and writing. That’s how you’ll keep improving. With sufficient hours and effort, it can take as little as three months to study this language.
