The Way Colors Influence Us And Our Lives

By Jack Wogan

The effects colors have on us vary from making us happy and active to making us relaxed or annoyed. The way they influence our lives is part of the principles of the Feng Shui but psychologists also study their effects on human mind and mood. That is why decorators learn from them how to create pleasant environments with the help of colors.

If you have decided to do your own decorating it means you are relying on your common sense. It may be the one which guides you not to paint your rooms in red. Nevertheless if that is the color you love the most you are free to use it in an artistic manner. This means that you can paint a room with a dark shade of red and in beige, grey or white. Bright red is not appropriate because it increases the level of anxiety and violence in persons exposed to it for a longer period of time. If you are not sure about how to combine colors or how to use them, run a quick research on how colors influence us.

Decorating is inseparable from Feng Shui during the past few years. This oriental art is concerned with the way light, sound, smell and color can influence the energy in a room. Being associated with various areas of our lives colors are very important. They illustrate the five elements: Fire, Earth, Metal, Water, and Wood and can affect our lives when they are used in relation with the appropriate cardinal point.

Fire is responsible for passion and career. To control these aspects you should paint your south walls red, yellow, orange, pink or purple or place objects of these colors in that direction. Earth is the element of balance in relationships. Light yellow and beige should be associated with the center of the rooms or with the northeast and the southwest. Metal is represented by gray and white. Efficiency and clarity are influenced by objects of these colors situated in the west and northwest part of your rooms. Water stands for calm, purity and freshness. Towards the north of your rooms you should have blue or black objects to bring calm into your life. Wood is an element concerned with health and vitality. Brown and green paint should color the eastern walls of your rooms for you to have a healthy family.

Using these tips you could create a harmonious atmosphere in your home. You could improve that pleasant environment by using high quality paints which make you forget the idea that paint stinks. Your home can be embellished with the appropriate paints having the perfect colors.
