Things To Consider When Considering Nanny Cams

By Gastner Palmer

What do you think of when you hear the term nanny cam? Some think of cameras hidden in stuffed animals, clocks, smoke detectors, even air fresheners. As the technology advances it’s possible to stick these things into smaller and smaller places. Giving you an undetectable way to see how a care giver is performing their duties with an aged parent or your toddler.

Nanny Cams Defined: A nanny cam has come to be a generic term for hidden surveillance cameras. These are hidden in plain sight in common household items and allow you to record, and in some cases view in real time the activities going on in your absence.

These high tech gizmos can offer a sense of comfort. You can be confident in the level of care being given. You don’t have to rely on an element of trust in the caregiver. You can check that the proper things are being done at the right time.

Being able to see what went on in your home when you were away offers peace of mind you can’t get any other way. Making it easier to kiss the kids good bye in the morning as you dash out the door on your way to work.

You have many choices when it comes to the gear itself. And most are easy to use. You’ll likely want to strongly consider DVR nanny cams. These are said to be the gold standard of surveillance cams as they let you record on a hard drive that can be used repeatedly.

Hardware choices aside, the big thing with the success of such surveillance is placement of the camera itself. This goes a long way to determining what you can take note of at home when away.

The amount of cash it takes to get this level of comfort depends really. On the number and type of cameras you end up with. Taking into consideration the quality of the image resolution and transmission capability.

There are also legalities to consider. I’m not saying you need to get an opinion letter from your attorney but it doesn’t hurt to brush up in the laws in your state over what you can and can’t record in your home. Video is probably not going to be an issue. Audio recording without the other persons knowledge may well present a red flag. A bit of research before can save reams of legal hassle later.

In the end judicious use of so called nanny cams will allow you keep an eye on things when leaving loved ones in the care of others. If you’re left feeling uncomfortable keep in mind how being informed lets you relax at work confident things are going as you’d expect.
