A person that lacks sleep leads to inability to attend to the next day’s responsibilities. Some people though think that a 4-hour sleep could just be what they need but then it’s not enough compared to getting a full 8-hour sleep.

Most of us, at some point, had trouble in getting a good night sleep. There are number of reasons and factors that determine how well one can sleep each night. Statistically, external and environmental factors are the ones that deprive one to get a good night sleep. To facilitate a good night sleep, here are some doable tips:

1. Listen to Instrumental or Relaxation CDs – When it is about time for you to sleep, put an instrumental or relaxation CD on your player. Classical music played in a low background volume is popular to induce sleep. Sounds of nature like that of a forest and a brook are also proven to be bring a soothing feeling that can put one to nice and relaxing slumber.

2. Read a Good Book – Regardless of the position, some people fall asleep while reading. A good book with a plot that will make you forget the usual busy day may help you to drift into a deep sleep.

3. Avoid eating munchies. When you know that you’ll be sleeping in an hour or two, skip eating food with grains or the ones high in sugar. When your blood sugar goes up a spike, it interrupts with your sleeping pattern and most of the time, if you get past your sleeping stage, you would find it hard to go back to sleep.

4. Turn off the lights. Some people can never fall asleep if the light is on, while some cannot fall asleep if there is no light at all. It’s ideal to turn off the lights during bedtime but if you are the type who just can’t doze off without any light on, use an energy saving lamp that can be plugged right next to your bed socket. This way, you maintain a low light inside the room and also avoid having high electricity bills. Avoid using the television as a way to fall asleep as it will only lengthen your brain activity further more.

5. Sleep on a bed that is warm and comfortable. Choose a bed that you will always feel comfortable during sleep. A pre-warmed bed or heated mattress pads can definitely add to how cozy and comfortable a bed is going to be during sleep. When the body is relaxed, the brain is also ready to go to a deep sleep. Plus, warmer beds help relieve sore muscles and back pain. Don’t worry about your electric bill for using heated mattress pads or table warmers because it is a lot cheaper than using a heating unit.
